Six percent of Internet users across the world are still using Internet Explorer<\/a> 6 (IE6) despite numerous calls for people to upgrade to a more modern browser.<\/p>\n

Microsoft<\/a>\u2019s Internet Explorer 6 Countdown website<\/strong><\/a>, which aims to drop the global use of IE6 to below 1%, highlights that it\u2019s time for users of this outdated browser to say goodbye.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis website is dedicated to watching Internet Explorer 6 usage drop to less than 1% worldwide, so more websites can choose to drop support for Internet Explorer 6, saving hours of work for web developers,\u201d the website states.<\/p>\n

\u201cFriends don\u2019t let friends use Internet Explorer 6. And neither should acquaintances. Educate others about moving off of Internet Explorer 6,\u201d Microsoft said.<\/p>\n

However, nearly two years after the launch of this campaign the percentage of IE6 users globally remains stubbornly high \u2013 around 6%.<\/p>\n

This decade old browser, which was first released in 2001, is still used by 24% of Chinese Internet users. 1.6% of South African netizens still use the outdated browser.<\/p>\n
