While South Africans were able to buy many of the tablets launched in 2012 through official local channels, a number of devices weren\u2019t sold here for various reasons.<\/p>\n

These include the Padfone 2 from Asus, a smartphone which can be docked into a tablet, and the Nexus 10, Google\u2019s 10-inch tablet offering.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s worth pointing out that devices such as the Nexus 10 and Microsoft Surface aren\u2019t ruled out for SA launches yet, they just didn\u2019t make it to our shores at the time of writing.<\/p>\n

Amazon\u2019s Kindle Fire range of tablets also haven\u2019t made it to South Africa through official channels yet, though this is likely due to the fact that most of its ecosystem isn\u2019t available here.<\/p>\n

The Amazon Appstore, MP3 store, and on-demand video service are all unavailable to non-US citizens.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also understandable that the Barnes & Noble Nook range of tablets aren’t available in SA, considering that they don\u2019t have any stores in the country.<\/p>\n
