A recent media report from FMTech quoted Vodacom commercial director Romeo Kumalo as saying that Vodacom hoped to trigger a revolution in broadband communications in SA, that data tariffs would have to come down and that the company "will make an announcement soon".<\/p>\n
This statement excited many consumers, but according to some sources close to the internal pricing investigations the statements by Kumalo may be premature. It seems that no decision has been made on data pricing yet, and that many potential new pricing models are still under investigation.<\/p>\n
Vodacom’s corporate communications department also did not want to comment on the possible broadband price cuts and Kumalo’s statements. Their official statement is that the company will inform MyBroadband when it ‘had anything to say about broadband’.<\/p>\n
Encouraging news for consumers is that Vodacom is actively investigating more innovative and aggressive pricing models which are likely to result in improved service offerings to Vodacom subscribers.<\/p>\n
Kumalo’s office was called for comment on his broadband pricing statements, but he did not provide feedback by the time of publication.<\/p>\n
