Sony<\/a> has unveiled its new flagship Android<\/a> smartphone at CES 2013 – and has pegged the device for a Q2 2013 launch in South Africa. No pricing information is currently available.<\/p>\n

The Xperia Z will launch on Android version 4.1 (Jelly Bean), and Sony promises an upgrade to Android 4.2.<\/p>\n

The Xperia Z features a Full HD (1920 x 1080) 5-inch “Reality Display” with a mobile version of the Bravia Engine 2 which claims to offer super brightness and clarity.<\/p>\n

Under the hood is the Snapdragon S4 Pro 1.5GHz quad-core processor with 2GB RAM, a 13-megapixel fast-capture camera, 4G\/LTE<\/a> support. Stand-out connectivity features include DLNA certification, NFC<\/a>, and HDMI via MHL.<\/p>\n

The digital camera features Exmor RS for mobile, which Sony claims is the world’s first image sensor with HDR (High Dynamic Range) video for smartphones.<\/p>\n

The battery life claims include talk time of up to 14 hours, and standby time of up to 550 hours.<\/p>\n

Xperia Z boasts what Sony calls their “OmniBalance design”, with rounded edges and smooth reflective surfaces on all sides.<\/p>\n

The Xperia Z measures in at at 7.9mm thick, with tempered glass and anti-shatter film on the front and back. Dust and water resistance technology (IP55 and IP57) rounds off the external design.<\/p>\n
