During day 2 of CES<\/a> 2013, on Wednesday (9 January 2012), Samsung<\/a> introduced its Exynos 5 Octa application processor.<\/p>\n

Stephen Woo<\/a>, president of the System LSI Business, Device Solutions Division at Samsung, said that it is the first processor in the world to use ARM<\/a>\u2019s Big.Little technology.<\/p>\n

Arm\u2019s chief executive officer, Warren East<\/a>, joined Woo on stage during his keynote presentation at CES to talk about the concept behind Big.Little.<\/p>\n

East explained that the processor houses a total of 8 cores: four powerful Cortex-A15 cores to handle intensive tasks, and four additional Cortex-A7 cores for lighter workloads.<\/p>\n

This design means that the Exynos 5 Octa offers maximum performance and up to 70 percent higher energy efficiency compared to the previous quad-core Exynos, Samsung said in a press statement that accompanied the announcement.<\/p>\n
