Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has joined Fusion-io, a start-up firm considered a leader in innovative computer storage technology, Fusion-io announced on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Fusion-io said Wozniak, 58, who launched Apple Computer with Steve Jobs in 1976, would serve as the company’s "chief scientist" and as a technical advisor to Fusion-io’s research and development group.<\/p>\n
"Steve Wozniak has been among the most elite innovators of his age and we are honored by his enthusiasm for our technology and our company," Fusion-io chief executive Don Basile said in a statement.<\/p>\n
"Steve’s inventions and insights have inspired generations of IT professionals and we look forward to the influence he will have on the future direction of Fusion-io as we continue to transform the enterprise," he added.<\/p>\n
Wozniak, who previously served as a member of Fusion-io’s advisory board, said he was attracted to the company by "the revolutionary technological advances" it was making in the field of computer storage.<\/p>\n
"The company is in the right place at the right time with the right technology and ready to direct the history of technology into the 21st century and beyond," Wozniak said in a statement.<\/p>\n
"The technology marketplace has not seen such capacity for innovation and radical transformation since the mainframe computer was replaced by the home computer," he added.<\/p>\n
"Fusion-io’s technology is extremely useful to many different applications and almost all of the world’s servers."<\/p>\n
The Salt Lake City, Utah-based Fusion-io, which was founded in 2006, uses flash memory technology to allow for faster retrieval of data from computer servers and other storage systems.<\/p>\n
