{"id":69032,"date":"2013-01-21T17:32:52","date_gmt":"2013-01-21T15:32:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=69032"},"modified":"2013-01-21T17:51:16","modified_gmt":"2013-01-21T15:51:16","slug":"fnb-ad-debacle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/69032-fnb-ad-debacle.html","title":{"rendered":"FNB ad debacle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"FNB\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/307757-FNB-First-National-Bank\">FNB<\/a> has disallowed public viewing of a number of the <a title=\"YouTube\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/363498-YouTube\">YouTube<\/a> videos that formed part of its recently launched \u201cYou can help\u201d advertising campaign.<\/p>\n<p>This is after accusations from the <a title=\"ANC Youth League\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/499316-ANC-Youth-League\">ANC Youth League<\/a> that the advertisement is a \u201ctreacherous attack\u201d on South Africa, and demands from the Young Communist League that the the bank must retract the advertisements.<\/p>\n<p>The ANCYL responded to FNB\u2019s removal of the videos by calling the bank\u2019s actions \u201ccowardly\u201d in a statement, and demanded the release of all the videos.<\/p>\n<p>It specifically named \u201cA speech by Tiara\u201d as among those that must be released to the public, \u201cso that South Africans may engage on this issue from a point of information,\u201d the league said.<\/p>\n<p>FNB\u2019s ambitious advertising campaign riled the ruling party as well with Mail &amp; Guardian reporting that ANC spokesperson <a title=\"Keith Khoza\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/384369-Keith-Khoza\">Keith Khoza<\/a> said: \u201cThis isn\u2019t an advert \u2013 it\u2019s a political statement. An attack on the president, his ministers and government as a whole.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/m7Vyj9b1NyY\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Questioned about the removal of the videos on its <a title=\"Facebook\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/348566-Facebook\">Facebook<\/a> wall, FNB had the following to say:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We have not pulled the advertising campaign. We have only removed some of the videos from YouTube and our Blog.<\/p>\n<p>FNB is shocked by the allegation of treason levied against it.
