{"id":69406,"date":"2013-01-28T20:53:10","date_gmt":"2013-01-28T18:53:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=69406"},"modified":"2013-03-09T13:51:11","modified_gmt":"2013-03-09T11:51:11","slug":"iphone-5-lte-support-for-vodacom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/69406-iphone-5-lte-support-for-vodacom.html","title":{"rendered":"iPhone 5 LTE support for Vodacom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Apple\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/342717-Apple-Inc\">Apple<\/a> has released <a title=\"iOS\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/464665-iOS\">iOS<\/a> 6.1, which added <a title=\"LTE\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/367212-Long-term-Evolution-(LTE)\">LTE<\/a> support to <a title=\"Vodacom\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/227063-Vodacom\">Vodacom<\/a>\u2019s <a title=\"iPhone 5\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/498240-Apple-iPhone-5\">iPhone 5<\/a> subscribers. <a title=\"MTN\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/226943-MTN\">MTN<\/a> users in South Africa will, however, have to continue to wait for LTE support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201ciOS 6.1 brings LTE support to more markets around the world, so even more users can enjoy ultrafast Safari browsing, FaceTime video calls, iCloud services, and <a title=\"iTunes\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/384017-iTunes\">iTunes<\/a> and <a title=\"App Store\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/475940-App-Store\">App Store<\/a> downloads,\u201d said Philip Schiller, Apple\u2019s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.<\/p>\n<p>iOS 6.1 is available as a free software update today (28 January 2013). iOS 6.1 is compatible with iPhone 5, <a title=\"iPhone 4S\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/500260-Apple-iPhone-4S\">iPhone 4S<\/a>, <a title=\"iPhone 4\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/501046-Apple-iPhone-4\">iPhone 4<\/a>, <a title=\"iPhone 3GS\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/501052-Apple-iPhone-3GS\">iPhone 3GS<\/a>, <a title=\"iPad\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/499704-iPad\">iPad<\/a> (third and fourth generation), <a title=\"iPad mini\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/499452-iPad-mini\">iPad mini<\/a>, iPad 2 and iPod touch (fourth and fifth generation).<\/p>\n<p>iPhone 5 users on the Vodacom network should note that they must have an LTE enabled SIM to connect to the LTE network. Users can enable their SIM for LTE by calling the Vodacom helpdesk.<\/p>\n<p>The Apple website only listed Vodacom as an LTE supported network in South Africa. \u00a0It is not known why MTN&#8217;s that the iOS 6.1 update means that iPhone 5 users will get LTE support on the Vodacom network.<\/p>\n<p>The following screenshot was taken from an LTE speed test performed on the Vodacom network using
