{"id":69468,"date":"2013-01-29T23:29:10","date_gmt":"2013-01-29T21:29:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=69468"},"modified":"2013-01-29T23:30:31","modified_gmt":"2013-01-29T21:30:31","slug":"uncapped-adsl-telkom-versus-mweb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/adsl\/69468-uncapped-adsl-telkom-versus-mweb.html","title":{"rendered":"Uncapped ADSL: Telkom versus MWEB"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"MWEB\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/226947-MWeb\">MWEB<\/a> announced the launch of its new, cheaper uncapped ADSL products which will be available from 1 February 2013.<\/p>\n<p>MWEB\u2019s product release follows <a title=\"Telkom\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/227037-Telkom\">Telkom<\/a>\u2019s announcement on 24 January 2013 that it will reduce its consumer uncapped ADSL products by up to 40% and will cut the price of its business uncapped products by up to 35%.<\/p>\n<p>MWEB\u2019s new products will complement its existing Premium Uncapped ADSL product suite.<\/p>\n<p>The main difference between MWEB\u2019s current uncapped service and its new, cheaper offering is that the new accounts will be throttled with high usage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will monitor usage across these products and reserve the right to throttle the connection speeds of the top percentage of subscribers on these products that generate usage above the average,\u201d said MWEB ISP CEO <a title=\"Derek Hershaw\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/226207-Derek-Hershaw\">Derek Hershaw<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hershaw explained that they will maintain a fair service for all their subscribers by implementing throttling on high usage users where applicable (throttled speeds: 2Mbps, 192Kbps; 4Mbps \u2013 256Kbps.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Telkom in turn said that they are removing day-time restrictions on their uncapped ADSL consumer products.<\/p>\n<p>This raises the question of how Telkom\u2019s uncapped ADSL prices compare with MWEB\u2019s new rates.
