MWEB has, for some time, offered free uncapped local bandwidth in conjunction with its standard ADSL packages. This was partly as a consequence of the ADSL Regulations that stipulate that local bandwidth may not be capped.<\/p>\n
Many MWEB ADSL subscribers find value in this service, and were not impressed when speculation started to emerge that the ISP would discontinue its uncapped local bandwidth service.<\/p>\n
Users started getting messages stating that they had used a certain percentage of their “Local Only Cap”, with some users reporting that their local only service had been discontinued after exceeding their usage limit.<\/p>\n
Unhappy MWEB subscribers were quick to make their voice heard in the MyBroadband forum and a petition was started to request that MWEB “keep local bandwidth uncapped”. <\/p>\n
“There are a number of (extremely) strong signs that MWEB will be cancelling their Local Uncapped Trial, on the first of April this year (2009),” the petition read.<\/p>\n
“They obviously have reasons for doing this but, they do not realise how many customers they will loose. Please join the fight! And sign this petition. In your ‘message’ state if you’re a MWEB Customer, and if you will cancel your account if they cancel the Local Uncapped.”<\/p>\n
The petition quickly notched up numerous signatures from unhappy users, but it seems that this consumer action may have been unnecessary.<\/p>\n
MWEB said that the situation was created by an internal error and that there is no change to the current uncapped local service.<\/p>\n
“Unfortunately it was an internal error at MWEB that resulted in you receiving this information yesterday. Currently there is no change to MWEB’s local-only product and MWEB continues to supply the uncapped local bandwidth service on its ADSL products,” MWEB said.<\/p>\n
