Afrihost<\/a> has announced that it will \u2018un-shape\u2019 all its uncapped ADSL traffic following an upgrade to its ADSL network.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been very busy in recent weeks with upgrading our ADSL network from the initial 8Gbps capacity we had when they first moved over to MTN, which was already approximately 30% more capacity than we previously had on the IS network,\u201d Afrihost said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfrihost then quickly saw the value in acquiring an additional 60% capacity to deliver the best capped and uncapped ADSL experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

Afrihost\u2019s 2Gbps Durban IPC and 3Gbps Cape Town IPC are now live, complementing its existing 8Gbps IPC capacity in Johannesburg.<\/p>\n

\u201cAside from the upgraded performance, our network boasts multiple international redundancies, with capacity on several undersea cables,\u201d said Afrihost.<\/p>\n

Afrihost said that its upgraded network is performing at excellent levels, which gave them the confidence to \u201ccompletely unshape all uncapped ADSL traffic\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe decision to do this is mainly intended to thank and reward our uncapped ADSL clients for their patience and support while the upgrades were in progress,\u201d said Afrihost.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe second objective is to demonstrate the capabilities of the upgraded network – in terms of delivering exceptional throughput and a low latency ADSL experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

Afrihost is confident that their additional capacity will more than handle the additional traffic, and after a week has passed they will re-assess their current shaping policies.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will absorb the cost of additional unshaped bandwidth completely,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n
