{"id":71950,"date":"2013-03-06T19:54:20","date_gmt":"2013-03-06T17:54:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=71950"},"modified":"2013-03-07T19:40:00","modified_gmt":"2013-03-07T17:40:00","slug":"sabc-nailed-by-union","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadcasting\/71950-sabc-nailed-by-union.html","title":{"rendered":"SABC nailed by union"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a title=\"SABC\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/313653-South-African-Broadcasting-Corporation-(SABC)\">SABC<\/a> board illegally removed the acting chief operations officer <a title=\"Hlaudi Motsoaneng\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/401887-Hlaudi-Motsoeneng\">Hlaudi Motsoaneng<\/a>, the Communication Workers Union said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We believe that the small clique or faction that operates within the board has never stopped working to topple Mr Motsoeneng ever since he started his work as the acting COO,&#8221; CWU national spokesman Matankana Mothapo said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They have done so through concerted and well co-ordinated media leaks, rumour-mongering and spreading lies.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mothapo said CWU knew the SABC was divided on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>A statement said to have been issued by the board last week, announced it had resolved in a meeting in Cape Town on February 25 to release Motsoeneng of his responsibility as acting COO with immediate effect.<\/p>\n<p>It decided he would revert back to his previous position as group executive of stakeholder relations and provinces.<\/p>\n<p>The board appointed <a title=\"Mike Siluma\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/508726-Mike-Siluma\">Mike Siluma<\/a>, a veteran journalist and head of radio news and current affairs, to the position.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, it was reported that Motsoaneng had been reinstated as acting COO.<\/p>\n<p>SABC chairman <a title=\"Ben Ngubane\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/353814-Ben-Ngubane\">Ben Ngubane<\/a> was on Monday reported as saying Motsoeneng was back in the position of acting COO.<\/p>\n<p>However, a statement said to be issued &#8220;by the majority of board members&#8221; denied this later on Monday, saying the removal of Motsoaneng stood.<\/p>\n<p>Mothapo said the CWU would write a letter to Communications Minister <a title=\"Dina Pule\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/210235-Dina-Pule\">Dina Pule<\/a>, demanding an explanation for the changes at the SABC.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We also request the minister to reverse the SABC board decision before anarchy can prevail,&#8221;
