{"id":7305,"date":"2009-03-13T08:20:00","date_gmt":"2009-03-13T06:20:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2009-03-13T08:20:00","modified_gmt":"2009-03-13T06:20:00","slug":"new-google-programme-turns-voicemail-into-email","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/7305-new-google-programme-turns-voicemail-into-email.html","title":{"rendered":"New Google programme turns voicemail into email"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Internet search giant Google on Thursday expanded its push into the telephone market, offering a service that provides a single number for home, work and cell phones and turns voicemail into email.<\/p>\n<p>Google Voice automatically transcribes voicemail messages into email or SMS text messages and provides a transcript in a user&#8217;s email inbox on their mobile phone or computer.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;When you receive a voicemail Google Voice will automatically transcribe it into text so you can read what the voicemail is about,&quot; Google said in an instructional video on the company blog.<\/p>\n<p>It warned, however, that since the transcripts are &quot;fully automated&quot; through voice recognition technology, they &quot;may include mistakes&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>The service is currently available only to existing users of a Google-owned telephone service known as GrandCentral, which the Mountain View, California, Internet company purchased in July 2007.<\/p>\n<p>But Google said it is to be offered for free to new subscribers to Google Voice in the next few weeks.<\/p>\n<p>GrandCentral provides a single telephone number for home, work, and mobile phones and a central voicemail inbox that can be accessed through the Web.<\/p>\n<p>It also allows for low-priced international calls over the Internet.<\/p>\n<p>Like GrandCentral, Google Voice will also allow users to consolidate their home, work and cell phones in a single telephone number.<\/p>\n<p>Google during the past year has been actively exploring ways to expand its revenue, almost all of which currently comes from Internet search advertising.<\/p>\n<p>Recent moves include adding advertisements to Google properties such as Google News, Google Maps and Google Finance and to videos on YouTube, which Google purchased for $1.6 billion in 2006.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Google launched a test version of a new &quot;interest-based&quot; advertising system that shows ads targeted to Web surfers based on their previous online activities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Internet search giant Google has expanded its push into the telephone market.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[18],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-7305","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-internet"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7305"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=7305"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7305\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=7305"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=7305"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=7305"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
