{"id":73442,"date":"2013-03-17T19:54:41","date_gmt":"2013-03-17T17:54:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=73442"},"modified":"2013-03-18T08:34:26","modified_gmt":"2013-03-18T06:34:26","slug":"fire-dina-pule-immediately-da","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/73442-fire-dina-pule-immediately-da.html","title":{"rendered":"Fire Dina Pule immediately: DA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a title=\"Democratic Alliance\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/431011-DA-Democratic-Alliance\">Democratic Alliance<\/a> said that the latest revelations in the on-going saga of Communications Minister <a title=\"Dina Pule\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/210235-Dina-Pule\">Dina Pule<\/a>\u2019s cronyism and self-enrichment leaves President <a title=\"Jacob Zuma\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/388441-Jacob-Zuma\">Jacob Zuma<\/a> with no other option but to fire her.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Marian Shinn\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/463739-Marian-Shinn\">Marian Shinn<\/a>, Shadow Minister of Communications said in a press statement that Zuma can no longer sit back and make a mockery of the South African public by allowing Minister Pule to stay in cabinet.<\/p>\n<p>It was reported in The Sunday Independent today that Minister Pule handpicked <a title=\"Gugu Duda\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/404587-Gugu-Duda\">Gugu Duda<\/a> to be the Chief Financial Officer of the <a title=\"SABC\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/313653-South-African-Broadcasting-Corporation-(SABC)\">SABC<\/a> and unduly influenced the board\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n<p>Duda in turn promised her former colleague, Nomakhaya Malebane, the position of deputy as Duda herself admitted that she did not have sufficient financial managerial experience.<\/p>\n<p>Duda was suspended in September for signing off a R3 million sponsorship deal for the now-controversial <a title=\"ICT Indaba\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/463737-ICT-Indaba\">ICT Indaba<\/a> which benefitted Minister Pule\u2019s boyfriend <a title=\"Phosane Mngqibisa\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/463741-Phosane-Mngqibisa\">Phosane Mngqibisa<\/a> to the tune of R6 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis should be the last straw in what has been the disastrous tenure of minister Pule,\u201d said Shinn.<\/p>\n<p>The DA\u2019s press statement highlighted the following issues related to communications minister Dina Pule:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The ICT Indaba scandal involving the Minister\u2019s boyfriend;<\/li>\n<li>Awarding <a title=\"Sentech\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/220208-Sentech\">Sentech<\/a> &#8211; and indirectly <a title=\"Nagravision\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/466379-Nagravision\">Nagravision<\/a> &#8211; the contract to install the control system in the locally assembled set-top boxes to further enrich her boyfriend, at the expense of an existing agreement with <a title=\"e-TV\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/313641-e-tv\">e-TV<\/a> and SABC. The courts found Minister Pule&#8217;s action unlawful;<\/li>\n<li>The killing of the <a title=\"Telkom\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/227037-Telkom\">Telkom<\/a>&#8211;<a title=\"KT Corporation\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/464311-KT-Korea-Telecom-Corporation\">KT Corporation<\/a> deal that promised to set Telkom on a path to technological excellence and financial growth;<\/li>\n<li>The disruption of Telkom&#8217;s AGM and, through her last minute changes to the board elections, temporarily crippled its board&#8217;s operations; and<\/li>\n<li>Undue interference in the SABC board&#8217;s appointment processes of SABC executives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThe Minister\u2019s 16 months in office have been characterised by her putting her own closed, crony circles above the best interests of the ICT sector,\u201d said Shinn.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is high time that she be shown the door and that it be done without any delay.
