The new telecoms player said that they have been working very hard behind the scenes to get everything in place to launch their commercial offerings, and did not want to make any noise before they had a true offering on the table.

According to the ECN CEO John Holdsworth it was not an easy task to sign interconnect agreements with the four large telecoms players. The process took many months to complete, but Holdsworth said he is glad that everything is now in place and that ECN could now make their services available to the market.

Voice offerings

Holdsworth says that ECN is offering both corporate and residential inbound and outbound voice services.

ECN’s services are priced aggressively in the South African market, with significant savings on both local and national calls. ECN promises a minimum 15% savings on mobile calls and a 50% reduction in international call rates when compared to Telkom’s prices.

ECN currently has three different call plans – with standard savings between 15 % and 25 % – as well as residential data solutions and hybrid offerings. The voice offerings are available over any Internet/IP connection like ADSL, leased line or wireless.

Own ADSL services

Holdsworth pointed out that the company is also rolling out its own copper infrastructure and DSLAM’s in gated villages to bring residents the benefits of ADSL.

The ECN CEO says that Telkom’s current ADSL wholesale model does not provide VANS with a sustainable revenue model and that he finds their self-provisioning solution far more suitable than the current reseller model.

ECN says that they provide substantially reduced tariffs on all broadband Internet packages with savings of up to 30% when compared to Telkom’s ADSL prices.

ECN’s Surf 1 Internet Plan – which offers a downlink speed of 384 Kbps and a 3 GB usage allowance – is priced at R 326.05 per month.

Their Surf 2 Internet Plan with a speed of 512 Kbps and a 5 GB usage allowance costs R 442.00 and their Surf 3 plan – offering a 1 Mbps connection with 10 GB of usage – is priced at R 516.44.

Comments

ECN Telecoms recently launched their voice and data services which compete directly with Telkom’s current corporate and residential offerings.

[3

post-735","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-telecoms
