This is according to Cell C CEO Alan Knott-Craig.

Knott-Craig told MyBroadband that Cell C currently has around 4,000 cellular sites nationally, of which 3,500 are 42Mbps HSPA enabled (providing a 79% 3G/HSPA population coverage).

“Cell C has made a substantial investment in the growth of its network over the last year. For the 2012 financial year, the company significantly increased its coverage, erecting 1,223 new 3G base stations,” Cell C said.

Cell C also has 100 active LTE sites, with a target to increase this number to 1,000 by the end of the year.

Cell C network problems addressed

Knott-Craig said that Cell C was experiencing network problems in March 2013, especially during peak hours when traffic levels spiked.

He said that they addressed these problems by increasing the capacity of the affected sites, and that service levels should be back to normal again.

The Cell C CEO added that they continue to roll out more sites and boost capacity on existing sites to improve their network performance.

However, some challenges remain. Limited spectrum and a lack of transmission at some sites make it difficult for Cell C to meet its objectives.

More Cell C articles

Cell C data uppercut incoming

Cell C network problems backlash

Cell C has better quality network than Vodacom, MTN: Knott-Craig

Cell C network problems feedback

Cell C is continuing to aggressively growth its network and address data bottlenecks where they occur

[14
681,355,35
post-74533","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-cellular","tag-alan-knott-craig","tag-cell-c","tag-headline
