signal distributor, Setumo Mohapi, reiterated at a press briefing today (9 April 2013).

This milestone was achieved on 28 March 2013, Mohapi said.

The state-owned company has also been trialling the DVB-T2-Lite profile of the Digital Video Broadcasting – Terrestrial version 2 (DVB-T2) standard for mobile broadcasting.

Mohapi explained that DVB-H (or DVB – Handheld) is already being used in South Africa, but Sentech are running trials on various other standards.

One of its customers has been running a trial on the Korean DMB standard for two years, Mohapi said.

Sentech also has plans for a multi-media content distribution platform, on the cards for its 2013–2016 roadmap.

Part of this, Mohapi said, is Sentech joining NAPAfrica to peer at the Teraco data centre.

This peering forms an important part of the infrastructure that’s going to drive Sentech’s multi-media content distribution platform, Mohapi said.

<a data-lightbox="post-image"
