These caps are, however, not adequate when using the Internet for more bandwidth intensive services such as YouTube or online gaming, and uncapped accounts are a prized possession in South Africa.

Uncapped accounts, especially for higher speed ADSL services, can set users back a few thousand rands per month. This is however starting to change, with prices for uncapped accounts starting to drop below R1 000 per month.

Vodacom Business recently unveiled its uncapped ADSL pricing, starting from R899 for an uncapped DSL384 account. An uncapped DSL512 service is priced at R1 299 while a 4Mbps uncapped ISP account costs R2 399.

Vodacom Business’ pricing is more aggressive than most other internet service providers (ISP), but even better deals can be found for those that are willing to shop around.

Openweb recently launched its 1024Kbps uncapped ADSL package for R680 a month. This offering however only starts working on the 15th of each month, until the last day of the month it was purchased in. It will therefore typically serve consumers whose standard ADSL accounts reach their limit around mid-month.

SAOL offers very competitive prices on its fixed IP ADSL access service which provides users with always available flat-rated internet access. SAOL’s all-in-one 384Kbps fixed IP service costs R499 per month, which includes ADSL access (typically priced at R152 per month), a static IP address and unlimited Internet usage.

The price for their 512Kbps service with the same benefits is priced at R749 while a 1024Kbps account costs R1 499.

These accounts are, however, only a handful of uncapped ADSL services available in the market, and consumers are urged to familiarise themselves with the latest offerings before committing to any long term contract.

Uncapped ADSL pricing discussion

In South Africa uncapped ADSL used to be reserved for businesses and rich individuals, but prices are starting to drop.

[5

post-7685","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-adsl
