Continuing its newfound enthusiasm for public test releases of its software, Microsoft has released Exchange Server 2010 as a public beta. The software, available from http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/exchange\/2010<\/a>, is the first of the software giant’s "new generation" software. <\/p>\n

Scheduled to be released in final form in the second half of 2009, Exchange Server 2010 will be followed by other "2010" releases such as Office 2010 in late 2009 and early 2010. Office 2010 and its related software will be made available as test releases in the third quarter of 2009, Microsoft said today. Final releases of the software, the company said, would be rolled out in early 2010. Microsoft previously referred to its next Office release as Office 14 but earlier this week announced the new Office 2010 name.  <\/p>\n

"Exchange 2010 ushers in the next generation of Microsoft unified communications software as the first server designed from inception to work both on-premises and as an online service," said Rajesh Jha, corporate vice president of Exchange at Microsoft.
    
New features built into Exchange Server 2010 includes MailTips, which warn users before they commit an email faux pas such as sending mail to large distribution groups, to recipients who are out of the office or to recipients outside the organisation, and voice mail previews which display text previews of voice mail in Outlook. <\/p>\n

Also included are the abilities to "ignore conversations" which allows users to remove themselves from irrelevant email threads, a conversation view which makes it easier to preview all related threads, and call answering rules for voice mail. <\/p>\n

Microsoft also says that Exchange Server 2010 will offer users a consistent experience across all platforms from PCs and laptops to mobile phones. <\/p>\n

Following the release of Exchange 2010 will be be a wave of new products including Microsoft Office 2010, Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, Microsoft Visio 2010 and Microsoft Project 2010. <\/p>\n
