{"id":77192,"date":"2013-05-06T14:49:39","date_gmt":"2013-05-06T12:49:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=77192"},"modified":"2013-06-20T10:41:55","modified_gmt":"2013-06-20T08:41:55","slug":"telkom-services-disrupted-by-cable-theft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/77192-telkom-services-disrupted-by-cable-theft.html","title":{"rendered":"Telkom services disrupted by cable theft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Theft of a major copper cable in the City Deep exchange area has resulted in the disruption of Telkom services.<\/p>\n<p>During the early hours of 4 May 2013, cable thieves cut and stole three metres of 2,400 pair main cable in a manhole on the corner of Heidelberg road and the N17. The thieves used an angle grinder to cut through a lockable manhole lid.<\/p>\n<p>Customers with the exchange codes 613 and 623 in the Tulisapark, Electron, Steeldale, and Elandspark suburbs are affected. This includes a total of 1,597 residential, business and corporate customers.<\/p>\n<p>Telkom has commenced with the restoration of the affected services and deployed several teams to expedite the repair process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe services will be progressively restored until Friday 10 May 2013. We apologise for the inconvenience caused by this outage and assure customers that we are doing everything possible to curb any further cable theft in the area,\u201d said Theo Hess, Telkom Managing Executive for Network Field Services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTelkom has reported the incident to the South African Police and Telkom\u2019s internal security.
