{"id":77428,"date":"2013-05-09T12:37:02","date_gmt":"2013-05-09T10:37:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=77428"},"modified":"2013-05-10T12:58:04","modified_gmt":"2013-05-10T10:58:04","slug":"icasa-confirms-closing-down-network","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/77428-icasa-confirms-closing-down-network.html","title":{"rendered":"ICASA confirms &#8220;closing down network&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (<a title=\"ICASA\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/462443-Independent-Communications-Authority-of-South-Africa-(ICASA)\">ICASA<\/a>) has confirmed that it has closed down <a title=\"Amatole Telecommunications Services\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/224893-Amatole-Telecommunication-Services\">Amatole Telecommunications Services<\/a> (aka <a title=\"Easttel\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/528640-Easttel\">Easttel<\/a>) in East London as part of its \u201cefforts to collect outstanding licence fees and enforcing compliance from operators\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe obtained a search and seizure warrant from the local Magistrates Court in East London against Amatole Telecommunication,\u201d ICASA said in a press statement.<\/p>\n<p>According to ICASA, Amatole has failed to pay its annual licence fees in terms of their licence terms and conditions from 2009\/2010 financial year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere have been a number of meetings between ICASA and Amatole to regularize their licences. On the 29th August 2012, Amatole Telecommunications Services signed an Acknowledgement of Debt which payable over a seven month period,\u201d said ICASA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cICASA agreed to the payment plan on the 6th of September 2012.
