BlackBerry<\/a> CEO Thorsten Heins<\/a> announced at the BlackBerry Live conference in Orlando, Florida today (14 May 2013) that BlackBerry Messenger (BBM<\/a>) will be launching on iOS<\/a> and Android<\/a> \u201cthis summer\u201d.<\/p>\n

Heins said that they are so confident in the BlackBerry 10<\/a> platform that they are giving away their key platform, BBM, for free.<\/p>\n

He said that BlackBerry 10 will remain the premier platform for the messaging service, but also announced that they intend to make all the features of BBM available on iOS and Android.<\/p>\n

According to Heins, the first version of multi-platform BBM will include multi-person chats, voice note sharing, and BlackBerry groups.<\/p>\n

\u201cFeature parity\u201d between BBM on BlackBerry 10 and multi-platform BBM will be coming later, Heins said, with BBM Voice, Video, Screen Share, and Channels eventually making their way to the Android and iOS apps.<\/p>\n
