{"id":7793,"date":"2009-04-24T21:07:00","date_gmt":"2009-04-24T19:07:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2009-04-24T21:07:00","modified_gmt":"2009-04-24T19:07:00","slug":"iphone-baby-shaker-causes-a-stir","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/7793-iphone-baby-shaker-causes-a-stir.html","title":{"rendered":"iPhone &#039;Baby Shaker&#039; causes a stir"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The program, which reportedly appeared in Apple&#8217;s App Store on Monday and  cost 99 cents to download, allowed a user to shake an iPhone screen to make a  baby stop crying.<\/p>\n<p>After enough shakes, the hand-drawn baby pictured on the screen stopped  wailing and a large red &#8220;X&#8221; appeared over each eye.<\/p>\n<p>Silicon Valley technology blogs reported that the application, from an  outside developer called Sikalosoft, was pulled from the App Store several hours  after Krapps.com, a website which reviews iPhone applications, revealed its  existence.<\/p>\n<p>Tens of thousands of applications for the iPhone have been created by  independent developers, but Apple has strict control over which ones are  featured in the App Store.<\/p>\n<p>The Sarah Jane Brain Foundation, a New York-based group which seeks to  prevent brain injuries from so-called Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS), strongly  condemned the &#8220;Baby Shaker&#8221; application.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, it also demanded &#8220;a personal apology to parents of SBS  victims and survivors&#8221; from Apple chief executive Steve Jobs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Apple, Inc., which notoriously and routinely rejects new apps from  developers with a &#8216;rigorous&#8217; vetting process, nonetheless apparently allowed  this horrible application to be sold through its store,&#8221; the Foundation  said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They&#8217;re basically saying that killing babies is OK,&#8221; Patrick Donohue,  founder of the Sarah Jane Brain Foundation, told AFP by telephone.<\/p>\n<p>He said he had contacted Apple but had yet to hear back from the company.<\/p>\n<p>The appearance of the &#8220;Baby Shaker&#8221; comes as California-based Apple prepares  to celebrate the billionth application download from the App Store.<\/p>\n<p>A counter at apple.com was at more than 995 million downloads at 0030 GMT on  Thursday and the billionth download mark was expected to be passed within the  next few hours.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"..\/..\/vb\/showthread.php?t=168680\">Apple  iPhone baby shaker<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; give your views<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Apple came under fire after an application for the iPhone called &#039;Baby Shaker&#039; was briefly approved for sale in the company&#039;s online store<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_sma_x_autopost_status":"idle","_sma_x_autopost_error":"","_sma_x_post_id":"","_sma_facebook_post_id":"","_sma_instagram_post_id":"","_sma_threads_post_id":"","_sma_x_attempts":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[14],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-7793","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-cellular"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7793"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=7793"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7793\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=7793"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=7793"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=7793"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
