It will soon be possible to have two SIM cards installed in your single SIM device in South Africa, Adriaan Greeff from Taisys Africa recently told MyBroadband.<\/p>\n
Taisys Technologies has established offices in South Africa, and plans to bring its \u201cthin SIM\u201d technology to the continent, which it says represents a market size of around 90-million SIMs.<\/p>\n
The thin SIM gets stuck onto your existing SIM card and you switch between networks using an app or USSD string, Greeff said.<\/p>\n
Asked who was going to offer this SIM, Greeff said that they are in negotiations with banks and networks currently, but can\u2019t say who.<\/p>\n
More details would be made public in the next 2 to 3 weeks, Greeff said.<\/p>\n
Thin SIMs also have applications other than connecting subscribers to a second network, Greeff said.<\/p>\n
This includes embedded applications and Near Field Communications (NFC) technology, though Greef said the steel body of the iPhone prevents them from giving it NFC at this stage.<\/p>\n
Taisys already has 6.5-million SIMs in the Asian market, but the rapid growth of the multiple SIM per subscriber market throughout Africa has been identified as a major opportunity for them, Greeff said.<\/p>\n
