{"id":7888,"date":"2009-05-04T00:25:00","date_gmt":"2009-05-03T22:25:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2009-05-04T00:25:00","modified_gmt":"2009-05-03T22:25:00","slug":"swine-flu-spam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/7888-swine-flu-spam.html","title":{"rendered":"Swine flu spam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Spam emails using &#8220;swine flu&#8221; as a keyword phrase have flooded the Internet as opportunists seek to exploit concerns over the outbreak of the virus, a global cyber security firm warned on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Spammers have quickly taken advantage of this state of alert to extend their spam campaigns,&#8221; Japanese security software maker Trend Micro said in a statement issued in Madrid.<\/p>\n<p>Spam emails with subject lines such as &#8220;Swine flu affects entire world&#8221; or &#8220;Swine flu epidemic&#8221; have been detected as well as those that claim to have a message from Mexican President Felipe Calderon outlining new measures that have been taken against the disease.<\/p>\n<p>The emails in fact direct recipients to websites of online pharmacies that peddle remedies to treat impotence and other maladies.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Swine virus has become a computer virus that takes advantage of fear, confusion and the interest for information available on the Web regarding the epidemic to spread mischievous codes, junk e-mails and infect computer equipments,&#8221; said the firm&#8217;s director for Latin America, Juan Pablo Castro.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s National Institute of Infectious Diseases warned Thursday that a suspicious Japanese-language email message with an attached file called &#8220;information on swine flu&#8221; had been circulating in cyberspace.<\/p>\n<p>Swine fever is believed to have killed up to 84 people in Mexico &#8212; eight of them confirmed &#8212; and has spread to the United States, Europe, Israel and New Zealand.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php?t=169944\"><strong>Swine flu spam discussion<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Spam emails using &quot;swine flu&quot; as a keyword phrase have flooded the Internet<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[18],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-7888","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-internet"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7888"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=7888"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7888\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=7888"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=7888"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=7888"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
