Telkom Mobile<\/a> (aka 8ta) has ended its \u201cFree Zone powered by Google\u201d service which offered free access to some of Google<\/a>\u2019s services.<\/p>\n

Free Zone was launched by Google and 8ta at G-South Africa on 13 November 2012, offering free access to Gmail<\/a>, Google+<\/a> and Google Search.<\/p>\n

This service provided 8ta subscribers with access to Google Search, Google e-mail and Google social networking free of charge.<\/p>\n

The Free Zone trial ran until 31 May 2013, and the service has now been discontinued.<\/p>\n

Google South Africa spokesperson Julie Taylor explained that Free Zone was a promotional offer and just one of many ways Google is aiming to make the Web more accessible and affordable for businesses and consumers.<\/p>\n

Telkom Mobile was asked why it decided to end this service, but the company did not respond by the time of publication.<\/p>\n
