{"id":7981,"date":"2009-05-10T17:40:00","date_gmt":"2009-05-10T15:40:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2009-05-10T17:40:00","modified_gmt":"2009-05-10T15:40:00","slug":"new-communications-minister-named","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/7981-new-communications-minister-named.html","title":{"rendered":"New communications minister named"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Jacob Zuma today named Siphiwe Nyanda as the new minister of communications.&nbsp; The new deputy minister of communications is Dina Pule.<\/p>\n<p>Nyanda, who was born in 1950, has a very strong military background and joined the military wing of the ANC &#8211; Umkhonto weSizwe &ndash; in 1974.&nbsp; He was a prominent struggle figure in the ANC, and was appointed Umkhonto weSizwe Chief of Staff in 1992.<\/p>\n<p>Nyanda became the Chief of the South African Defence National Force Staff in 1994 after Umkhonto weSizwe was integrated into the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).&nbsp; In 1997 he became the General Officer Commanding Gauteng Command (1996-1997) and was appointed Deputy Chief of the SANDF soon afterwards.&nbsp; In 1998 he was appointed the Chief of the SANDF, a post which he held until his current cabinet post.<\/p>\n<p>Nyanda matriculated from Orlando High School in Soweto in 1969 and started a BSc degree at the University of Zululand, but was expelled in his second year due to his political activities. <\/p>\n<p>ANC National Executive Committee member Dina Pule was named deputy minister of communications.&nbsp; Pule previously served as the Mpumalanga Agriculture and Land Administration MEC and the Mpumalanga MEC for Safety and Security.<\/p>\n<p>Siphiwe Nyanda takes over from acting communications minister Dr. Manto Tshabalala-Msimang while Dina Pule replaces Roy Padayachie.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php?t=170978\">Will Nyanda make a good comms minister?<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Jacob Zuma names military chief as next minister of communications<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-7981","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-telecoms"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7981"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=7981"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7981\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=7981"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=7981"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=7981"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
