{"id":80163,"date":"2013-06-13T14:28:59","date_gmt":"2013-06-13T12:28:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=80163"},"modified":"2013-06-13T15:50:12","modified_gmt":"2013-06-13T13:50:12","slug":"beware-r70min-call-charges-switch-telecom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/80163-beware-r70min-call-charges-switch-telecom.html","title":{"rendered":"Beware R70\/min call charges: Switch Telecom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cThe approach from Telkom is to, on short notice, change the cost of a destination to over ten times what it used to be, knowing that it will take time for wholesale customers to find alternate routes and adjust retail pricing,\u201d Switch Telecom CEO, Gregory Massel, recently wrote in a complaint received by MyBroadband.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the meantime, [wholesale customers] get screwed for the difference and Telkom pockets the premium,\u201d said Massel.<\/p>\n<p>Massel was complaining about the wholesale rates to certain international destinations being charged at premium prices, even though he said they should not be.<\/p>\n<p>He provided the following examples:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>+44 8 &#8211; UK non-geographic &#8211; R70.808 per minute. Massel said he gets this at less than R1.00 per minute from an alternate provider.<\/li>\n<li>+1 205 &#8211; USA, Alabama. These are regular USA numbers and should be under R0.10 per minute; Telkom charges R9.267 per min, Massel said.<\/li>\n<li>+1 205 &#8211; USA, Maine.
