Vodacom<\/a>\u2019s WiMax network, which was rolled out during 2008 in partnership with iBurst<\/a> in Gauteng and Cape Town, is being dismantled and most subscribers have already been migrated to other services.<\/p>\n

Vodacom spokesperson Richard Boorman<\/a> confirmed that they are winding down their WiMax operations.<\/p>\n

Boorman said that they have managed to migrate most of their WiMax customers to other connectivity solutions, and there are just a small number of customers still using the technology.<\/p>\n

Vodacom is looking to use the WiMax equipment in some of their other operations in Africa.<\/p>\n

iBurst was asked for comment on the WiMax network, which was built using iBurst\/WBS\u2019s spectrum, but the company did not respond by the time of publication.<\/p>\n
