{"id":81257,"date":"2013-07-01T12:00:05","date_gmt":"2013-07-01T10:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=81257"},"modified":"2013-07-01T12:01:42","modified_gmt":"2013-07-01T10:01:42","slug":"dstv-hd-standards-switch-begins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadcasting\/81257-dstv-hd-standards-switch-begins.html","title":{"rendered":"DStv HD standards-switch begins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The switch from the first version of the Digital Video Broadcasting \u2013\u00a0Satellite (DVB-S) standard to DVB-S2 for DStv&#8217;s high definition (HD) broadcasts started today (Monday, 1 July 2013), <a title=\"MultiChoice\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/216214-MultiChoice\">MultiChoice<\/a> has reminded its <a title=\"DStv\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/383647-DStv\">DStv<\/a> Premium subscribers with high definition services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease be reminded that we are switching HD services to DVB-S2 in the period from 1 \u2013 10 July,\u201d MultiChoice said. \u201cCheck now if you can see the slide on channel 425. If not, please contact an accredited installer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MultiChoice announced the change to the newer DVB-S2 standard earlier in June, saying that it will free up capacity that will let them launch new channels in future.<\/p>\n<p>Subscribers that do no see the slide on channel 425 will need to get an installer at their expense to look at their installation.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Technology Officer for MultiChoice, <a title=\"Gerdus van Eeden\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/268397-Gerdus-van-Eeden\">Gerdus van Eeden<\/a>, previously provided the following guidelines for customers when it comes to installations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An installer call out fee should be between R250 and R350 depending on where they live. This will include any re-alignment or adjustment, and is most likely the only change that will be required to receive the DVB-S2 transmissions.<\/li>\n<li>If the customer is further than 25km away from the installer, the amount above will exclude travel, which will be charged at R3,24 per extra kilometre, which is the AA rate.<\/li>\n<li>If customers do not currently have a 90cm dish, we highly recommend that they change to a 90cm dish (although not required to received DVB-S2 transmissions). The 90cm dish helps to reduce rain fade.
