The iOS and Android versions of BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) are on track to be launched \u201cbefore the end of the summer\u201d, according to BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins.<\/p>\n
Heins announced the Android and iOS apps for BBM at the BlackBerry Live conference in Florida during May, but a launch date was not confirmed until a quarterly results call on Friday (28 June 2013).<\/p>\n
There were rumours floating around that BlackBerry would launch the app on its competitors\u2019 platforms on 27 June 2013, but this proved to be false.<\/p>\n
Heins re-iterated that Android and iOS would only receive the \u201ccore BBM experience\u201d, while BlackBerry 10 would remain the premier platform for the messaging service.<\/p>\n
In May, Heins said that the first version of the new apps will include multi-person chats, voice note sharing, and BlackBerry groups.<\/p>\n
\u201cFeature parity\u201d between BBM on BlackBerry 10 and multi-platform BBM will be coming later, Heins said, with BBM Voice, Video, Screen Share, and Channels eventually making their way to the Android and iOS apps.<\/p>\n
