{"id":82169,"date":"2013-07-13T19:42:19","date_gmt":"2013-07-13T17:42:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=82169"},"modified":"2013-07-15T09:28:15","modified_gmt":"2013-07-15T07:28:15","slug":"africa-one-step-closer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/82169-africa-one-step-closer.html","title":{"rendered":".Africa one step closer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The ZA Central Registry (<a title=\"ZACR\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/433529-UniForum-SA\">ZACR<\/a>) bid for dotAfrica (.africa) has passed the Internet governing body ICANN (<a title=\"The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/387765-ICANN\">The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers<\/a>) &#8220;Initial Evaluation&#8221;. The decision was communicated officially on 12 July 2013.<\/p>\n<p>The ICANN \u201cNew gTLD Program Initial Evaluation Report\u201d stated that \u201cBased on the review of your application (it) has passed Initial Evaluation. The application is eligible to proceed to the next step in the Program.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The dotAfrica bid is supported by the different African Internet stakeholders including AUC and national Governments, Civil Society and the Technical community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The news is especially exciting coming as it did on the eve of the 47th ICANN International meeting that is now currently taking place in Durban with virtually the entire world Internet community represented,&#8221; said dotAfrica Steering Committee Chair <a title=\"Mohamed El Bashir\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/544695-Mohamed-El-Bashir\">Mohamed El Bashir<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The valued support of the African Union Commission \u201cAUC\u201d has been a key success factor.
