A joint task team between the SABC<\/a> and the Department of Communications (DoC<\/a>) will be established to address the challenges at the state broadcaster.<\/p>\n

This decision followed a meeting between the Minister of Communications Yunus Carrim<\/a>, Deputy Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams<\/a>, the SABC Board, management, and trade unions.<\/p>\n

The aim was to hear from the SABC as to what their challenges are, what progress there\u2019s been since the Interim Board was appointed, and how the Department can offer more assistance to the SABC to become more stable and be far more effective,\u201d said Carrim.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Board and management agreed with us that we need to settle outstanding matters related to broadcasting digital migration, including the set top box issues, so that the project is expeditiously implemented in all our interests.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was also agreed that challenges in filling senior management posts will be addressed urgently,\u201d said Carrim.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow that we have received outstanding information on the shareholder compact, we are committed to finalising it within 10 days\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are determined to play our full role in turning the SABC around and we see the minister\u2019s visit as an important step in that regard,\u201d said SABC Board Chairperson Ellen Tshabalala<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It was decided to establish a \u201cJoint Task Team\u201d between the SABC and the Department to begin work immediately to finalise the issues agreed on at the meeting, and report back at the next meeting between the Minister, Deputy Minister, and SABC, which is to be held in two weeks.<\/p>\n
