{"id":84267,"date":"2013-08-13T13:12:57","date_gmt":"2013-08-13T11:12:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=84267"},"modified":"2013-08-14T08:48:09","modified_gmt":"2013-08-14T06:48:09","slug":"cell-c-blackberry-services-capped","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/84267-cell-c-blackberry-services-capped.html","title":{"rendered":"Cell C BlackBerry services capped"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Cell C\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/213919-Cell-C\">Cell C<\/a> said in a statement today (13 August 2013) that it is updating its fair usage policy (FUP) for data services on <a title=\"BlackBerry\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/342709-BlackBerry\">BlackBerry<\/a> 7 (and older) devices.<\/p>\n<p>The new FUP is set to take effect from the start of next week, and introduces \u201cfair use limits\u201d across all of Cell C\u2019s \u201cBlackBerry Classic Plans\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In the terms and conditions for BlackBerry 7 Internet service plans <a href=\"http:\/\/m.cellc.co.za\" target=\"_blank\">on its mobile website<\/a>, Cell C outlined the new caps as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>BlackBerry Enterprise Service (BES): R114 for 2GB\/month<\/li>\n<li>BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS): R57 for 2GB\/month<\/li>\n<li>BlackBerry Social &amp; E-mail Plan: R37 for 1GB\/month<\/li>\n<li>BlackBerry Social Plan: R27 for 1GB\/month<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once a subscriber hits these limits, they will pay Cell C\u2019s 15c\/MB out-of-bundle rate, the network operator said.<\/p>\n<p>All plans offer access to BlackBerry Messenger (<a title=\"BBM\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/378544-BBM-Blackberry-messenger\">BBM<\/a>), BlackBerry e-mail, BlackBerry App World, Internet Access, and social networking. Cell C summarises the additional features of the various plans on its website as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Social &amp; Email Plan:<\/strong> 1 additional web-based e-mail account such as Yahoo! or Gmail.<\/li>\n<li><strong>BlackBerry Internet Service:<\/strong> 10 Web-based email account, MSN Chat, &amp; Google Talk, Blackberry Protect.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Asked whether users would be warned before going out of bundle, Cell C explained that customers will be notified both when they reach 90% of their usage limit and again once they hit their usage limit.<\/p>\n<p>Cell C said that they decided to introduce the caps because abuse of the classic BlackBerry services remained high despite measures it put in place earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome customers are still using in excess of 100GB of data, affecting the service levels of other BlackBerry customers,\u201d Cell C said. \u201cThe streamlining of the service allows the company to address this problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Customers with BlackBerry 10 devices will not be affected by the change, Cell C said.<\/p>\n<p>Cell C highlighted in its statement that its fair usage thresholds are the highest available on the market.
