{"id":84763,"date":"2013-08-20T11:19:44","date_gmt":"2013-08-20T09:19:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=84763"},"modified":"2013-08-20T11:28:21","modified_gmt":"2013-08-20T09:28:21","slug":"freevision-satellite-tv-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadcasting\/84763-freevision-satellite-tv-announced.html","title":{"rendered":"Freevision satellite TV announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Sentech\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/220208-Sentech\">Sentech<\/a> announced in a press statement today (20 August 2013) that it will rebrand Vivid as a universal access direct-to-home satellite platform, \u201cFreevision\u201d, from 30 September 2013.<\/p>\n<p>This is expected to be days before the launch of OpenView HD, a subscription-free satellite service from <a title=\"E-tv\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/313641-e-tv\">E-tv<\/a> sister company, <a title=\"Platco\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/547417-Platco-Digital\">Platco<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This confirms information from an industry source that <a title=\"Free satellite TV for SA: new plans, old hand\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadcasting\/84567-free-satellite-tv-for-sa-new-plans-old-hand.html\">Sentech had plans to relaunch its satellite broadcasting platform<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to Sentech, the launch of Freevision is a \u201cgap-filler\u201d while the migration from analogue to digital terrestrial television (DTT) is ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>In its press statement, the state-owned signal distributor explained that a direct-to-home satellite service was envisioned as part of the DTT migration for those few who would not be able to receive terrestrial TV signals.<\/p>\n<p>All licensed DTT broadcasters will be able to use the Freevision platform, Sentech said.<\/p>\n<p>Freevision will use the Intelsat 20 satellite located at 68.5\u00b0E.
