{"id":86477,"date":"2013-09-09T14:12:17","date_gmt":"2013-09-09T12:12:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=86477"},"modified":"2013-09-10T08:44:38","modified_gmt":"2013-09-10T06:44:38","slug":"reverse-engineering-software-should-be-allowed-dti","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/86477-reverse-engineering-software-should-be-allowed-dti.html","title":{"rendered":"Reverse engineering software should be allowed: DTI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The reverse engineering of software, so long as it is consistent with our international treaty obligations, should be allowed in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>This is according to the draft Intellectual Property Policy which was published by the Department of Trade and Industry (<a title=\"DTI\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/289643-DTI-Department-of-Trade-and-Industry\">DTI<\/a>) in the Government Gazette on Wednesday, 4 September 2013.<\/p>\n<p>The DTI offered a number of recommendations in the document, which it said were made \u201cto enhance access to copyrighted materials and achieve developmental goals for education and knowledge transfer\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>According to the DTI, South Africa must adopt \u201cpro-competitive measures under copyright legislation\u201d.
