iOS 7, the latest version of Apple<\/a>\u2019s mobile operating system, will be launched on 18 September 2013 and be available as a free download for owners of supported devices.<\/p>\n

This is according to Apple\u2019s Craig Federighi<\/a>, who was speaking to media at a special event at the Apple campus on Tuesday, 10 September 2013.<\/p>\n

Apple previously highlighted a slew of features for iOS 7, such as:<\/p>\n

  1. Control Centre: providing frequently used controls and settings by swiping up from the bottom of the device from anywhere, including the lock screen.<\/li>\n
  2. Multitasking: revamped app switcher, background update scheduling learns from usage; apps are already updated when you tap on its notification.<\/li>\n
  3. Safari: updates to the interface and Reading List.<\/li>\n
  4. AirDrop: share files between devices.<\/li>\n
  5. Photos: revamped interface, automatically organises images into \u201cMoments\u201d.<\/li>\n
  6. Siri: new interface, male voice, adjust settings like brightness, search Wikipedia and Twitter.<\/li>\n
  7. iOS in the car: iOS will be integrating with a number of car manufacturers, including Honda, Mercedes, Chevrolet, Kia, Hyundai, and Ferrari.<\/li>\n
  8. Auto-updating apps: App store updates apps automatically in the background.<\/li>\n
  9. Music app: revamped user interface.<\/li>\n
  10. iTunes Radio: music streaming service.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    In its press release accompanying the original announcement, Apple said that the update to iOS 7 would be available for free for the iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, iPad mini and iPod touch (fifth generation), warning that some features may not be available on all products.<\/p>\n
