Pre-orders for the iPhone 5c<\/a> and iPhone 5s<\/a> haven\u2019t opened overseas, and yet the local rumour-mill is already going full-tilt, with talk of an SA launch as early as October 2013.<\/p>\n

However, more believable industry speculation suggests that a November 2013 launch is more likely for the new iPhones in South Africa, as part of Apple<\/a>‘s fourth launch wave .<\/p>\n

It\u2019s worth noting that South African launch date speculation for the iPhone 5 was also optimistic about an October 2012 launch, but the device only became available in December 2012.<\/p>\n

The iPhone 4S<\/a> was announced on 4 October 2011 and launched in South Africa on 16 December 2011<\/a>. Stock shortages plagued the initial launch, with many customers reporting that they were only able to get their hands on a device in early in 2012<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Apple announced the iPhone 5<\/a> on 12 September 2012 and despite much speculation of an earlier launch, the phone only made it to South Africa on 14 December 2012<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The iPhone 5s and 5c were announced<\/a> on Tuesday, 10 September 2013, and it remains to be seen whether the optimistic rumours of an October launch pan out this year.<\/p>\n
