{"id":871,"date":"2007-08-03T13:41:58","date_gmt":"2007-08-03T11:41:58","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2007-08-03T13:41:58","modified_gmt":"2007-08-03T11:41:58","slug":"not-thinking-clearly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/hardware\/871-not-thinking-clearly.html","title":{"rendered":"Not thinking clearly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>All the usual expectations that I have of one of these computers were readily met: the build quality was great, the keyboard beautifully solid and the entire machine seemed to have retained the old Thinkpad aura despite being built by Chinese manufacturer Lenovo. <\/p>\n<p>For those who have never experienced the joy that&#39;s the Thinkpad, the fundamental external design has remained the same since the brand was first introduced in 1992.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time IBM has continued to add extra features to make the businessman&#39;s life easier, such as a small light to illuminate the keyboard in dark environments and a fingerprint reader that eradicates the need to remember your password. <\/p>\n<p>The T60 isn&#39;t a consumer-focused product, lacking either a webcam or a memory card reader, although business machines are increasingly including those features.<\/p>\n<p>Once I&#39;d got the T60 set up and running on the company network, things began to go wrong. At this point I&#39;m not sure whether I should be blaming the hardware or Windows XP for all kinds of strange behaviour. The system would freeze for no reason; the mouse would move around the screen and click randomly; and applica-tions would take forever to launch.<\/p>\n<p>I find it hard to blame Lenovo for that, because those seem like software issues. <\/p>\n<p>I still have a soft spot for the Thinkpad family but the review machine was definitely its black sheep.<\/p>\n<p><em>Finweek<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;VE LONG BEEN a huge fan of the IBM Thinkpad family of notebook computers.
