{"id":88633,"date":"2013-10-10T08:09:03","date_gmt":"2013-10-10T06:09:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=88633"},"modified":"2013-10-10T11:12:59","modified_gmt":"2013-10-10T09:12:59","slug":"mxit-still-growing-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/88633-mxit-still-growing-report.html","title":{"rendered":"Mxit still growing: report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Mxit\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/226948-MXit\">Mxit<\/a> has succeeded in maintaining the loyalty of its user base despite the fact that it has been supplanted by <a title=\"Facebook\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/348566-Facebook\">Facebook<\/a> as the country\u2019s biggest social network.<\/p>\n<p>This is according to analysis of the SA Social Media Landscape 2014 research study, released this week by <a title=\"World Wide Worx\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/307751-World-Wide-Worx\">World Wide Worx<\/a> and <a title=\"Fuseware\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/407083-Fuseware\">Fuseware<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Headline findings issued last month showed that the Mxit user base had fallen significantly in the past year.<\/p>\n<p>However, World Wide Worx said that when taking into account a change in the way the service measures active users \u2013 from being active on the network over 90 days to being on in the last 30 days \u2013 Mxit appears have turned a corner.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2012, a 30-day active measure gave Mxit 6.2-million subscribers. A year later, in July 2013, the active subscriber base had grown marginally to 6.3-million. In August 2013 this number had grown to 6.5-million.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis finding provides fascinating insight into the willingness of outgoing <a title=\"Michael Jordaan at Mxit\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/general\/87835-michael-jordaan-joins-mxit.html\"><strong>FNB CEO Michael Jordaan to take on the role of chairman of Mxit<\/strong><\/a>,\u201d said <a title=\"Arthur Goldstuck\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/221541-Arthur-Goldstuck\">Arthur Goldstuck<\/a>, MD of technology market researchers World Wide Worx.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRather than coming in to rescue a dwindling brand, he has arrived to build on a relatively solid foundation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The SA Social Media Landscape 2014 report describes the decision by new Mxit CEO <a title=\"Francois Swart\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/475320-Francois-Swart\">Francois Swart<\/a> to clean up how Mxit reported its numbers as a turning point for the network.
