{"id":89003,"date":"2013-10-15T14:15:08","date_gmt":"2013-10-15T12:15:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=89003"},"modified":"2013-10-15T14:18:21","modified_gmt":"2013-10-15T12:18:21","slug":"java-to-delphi-in-sa-schools-the-cost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/government\/89003-java-to-delphi-in-sa-schools-the-cost.html","title":{"rendered":"Java to Delphi in SA schools: the cost"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Retraining teachers from the 4 provinces that use Java in its Information Technology (IT) curriculum to switch to Delphi will cost an estimated R950,000, according to the Department of Basic Education (DBE).<\/p>\n<p>The cost estimate is broken down in a circular issued by the Department in which it defends its decision to scrap Java as an option for the IT subject taught at some high schools in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>DBE recommended separate 2-day training workshops for grade 11 and 12 teachers.<\/p>\n<p>It suggested the following focus for the grade 11 workshop:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Delphi IDE (GUI)<\/li>\n<li>Delphi syntax<\/li>\n<li>Delphi and Database<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For the grade 12 workshop, DBE suggested the following focus areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Delphi and database<\/li>\n<li>Own class<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"table-responsive\"><table class=\"table\" style=\"background-color: #f4f4f4;
