Additionally Kadir shed some light on the status of the region by revealing that South Africa, along with Turkey, is the largest target market in terms of PCs in the Middle East and Africa region.

According to Kadir South Africa has roughly 3 million PCs each year that can be accessed from an AMD point of view. In comparison Saudi Arabia and Egypt sit at just over one million, making the local market a very attractive one for the components manufacturer.

In addition to focusing on gaming and computer components Kadir added that AMD hopes to secure contracts with a number of governmental departments.

Laubscher will concentrate exclusively on AMD South Africa in the future with specific attention on training distribution staff and growing the brand.

Kadir admitted that AMD had suffered as a result of the global economic downturn, which forced the company to close its South African operations and rethink its strategy for the region.

New AMD SA head – comments and views

[19

post-8903","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-business
