Akamai released its Second Quarter 2013 State of the Internet Report recently, showing that Port 443 (SSL [HTTPS]), Port 80 (WWW [HTTP]), and Port 445 (Microsoft-DS) were the most targeted ports for Internet attacks.<\/p>\n

The report, which is based on data gathered from Akamai\u2019s distributed agents deployed across the Internet that monitor attack traffic, further revealed that the majority of attack traffic originates from Indonesia and China.<\/p>\n

The report revealed that Indonesia replaced China as the top producer of Internet attack traffic.<\/p>\n

Indonesia (38%) and China (33%) account for 71% of all Internet attack traffic globally. The United States remained at third with 6.9% of global attack traffic.<\/p>\n

The top 10 countries and regions generated 89% of observed attacks, up from 82% quarter-on-quarter.<\/p>\n

Top 10 targeted ports<\/h3>\n

The Akamai report showed that there was a significant increase in attack volume targeting Ports 80 (WWW\/HTTP) and 443 (SSL\/HTTPS).<\/p>\n

For the first time since 2008 Port 445 (Microsoft-DS) was not the most targeted port for attacks, dropping to third place.<\/p>\n
