{"id":89939,"date":"2013-10-24T08:59:54","date_gmt":"2013-10-24T06:59:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=89939"},"modified":"2013-10-24T09:53:07","modified_gmt":"2013-10-24T07:53:07","slug":"mtn-grows-data-subscribers-in-sa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/business\/89939-mtn-grows-data-subscribers-in-sa.html","title":{"rendered":"MTN grows data subscribers in SA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"MTN\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/226943-MTN\">MTN<\/a> released its quarterly update today (24 October 2014), revealing that the company has grown its South African subscriber base to 25.2 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMTN South Africa showed some progress after a challenging first half but we expect conditions to remain challenging for the balance of 2013,\u201d MTN said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe operation added 233,000 subscribers bringing the total of subscribers to 25.2 million at the end of the quarter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MTN attributed the growth to more competitive product offerings and focused marketing campaigns.<\/p>\n<p>MTN South Africa\u2019s prepaid segment grew its subscriber base marginally, gaining some traction through its revised MTN Zone offering and the launch of a competitive international calling campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The postpaid segment delivered a satisfactory performance, MTN said, driven by segmented marketing campaigns and attractive classic and hybrid packages.<\/p>\n<p>However, revenue growth for MTN SA declined year-on-year (YoY), mainly due to lower effective voice tariffs and slower subscriber growth.<\/p>\n<p>Data remained the largest contributor to revenue growth, with an increase of 16.6% (YoY).
