4.4 KitKat launched"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Google\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/314567-Google\">Google<\/a> launched the latest version of <a title=\"Android\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/221979-Google-Android\">Android<\/a> (4.4), \u201cKitKat\u201d, on Thursday, 31 October 2013 along with its new flagship smartphone, <a title=\"Nexus 5\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/571387-Nexus-5\">Nexus 5<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Based on teaser images posted by Nestl\u00e9 and Google to their social media channels, rumours emerged that the new version of the operating system would launch on 28 October 2013.<\/p>\n<p>The conclusions drawn from the teasers proved to be false, along with reports that the launch of the Nexus 5 and Android KitKat were pushed back to November 2013.<\/p>\n<p>However, many of the rumours of the new features in Android KitKat have been proven true.<\/p>\n<p>Among them is the lower minimum memory requirement of 512MB in Android KitKat, which Google said on its Android Developer blog kicks of \u201cProject Svelte\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Google also announced changes to the phone and messaging apps.<\/p>\n<p>Users of Google\u2019s new phone application will be able to search across their contacts, nearby places, or Google Apps accounts (such a company directory), directly from within the app.<\/p>\n<p>SMS and MMS messages have also been moved out of their own app into Google Hangouts app, the search giant confirmed.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Availability<\/h3>\n<p>The new Nexus 5 smartphone, which was built by LG for Google, ships with Android 4.4 \u201cKitKat\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Google also announced that the new version of Android will soon be available on Nexus 4, 7, 10, and the <a title=\"Samsung Galaxy S4\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/513416-Samsung-Galaxy-S4\">Samsung Galaxy S4<\/a> and
