Around 4 000 striking Telkom workers gathered at the Union Buildings on Wednesday to prepare to march to their employer’s offices in Pretoria.<\/p>\n
Singing liberation songs, Communications Workers’ Union (CWU) members dressed in red T-shirts danced and blew vuvuzelas while waiting for union members to lead the march.<\/p>\n
CWU spokesperson Pheane Ramoadi said employees were pushing for Telkom to meet their salary increase demands of eight percent.<\/p>\n
He said a memorandum would be handed over in a bid to help Telkom to consider and rectify salary imbalances.<\/p>\n
Police on horseback and metro police officers were monitoring the march.<\/p>\n
Workers have been on strike since August 3, said Ramoadi.<\/p>\n
On Thursday, Telkom and CWU representatives are scheduled to meet at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration in the hopes of finding a resolution to the dispute.<\/p>\n
