Naspers CEO Koos Bekker said that the new DStv Explora decoder manages to \u201cfake the Internet\u201d, making it possible for users to catch up on news or sporting events when it suits them.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt [DStv Explora] is very good. It\u2019s still a bit pricey, but it basically manages to fake the Internet,\u201d Bekker told Hilton Tarrant in a Moneyweb interview<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat I like is I got home the last couple of days, let\u2019s say eight o\u2019clock or whatever and then the Ashes is summarised on CatchUp in seven minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n Bekker said that it feels like the internet because a full day of cricket would be summarised in a few minutes, pushed down by satellite into his PVR and waiting for him when he arrives.<\/p>\n \u201cSo the function of the Explora is actually to mimic elements of the Internet,\u201d said Bekker.<\/p>\n The Naspers CEO said that it is important to \u201cfake the Internet\u201d because broadband access in South Africa is so poor that they can\u2019t give people sport on the internet. \u201cWe simply don\u2019t have the bandwidth,\u201d said Bekker.<\/p>\n \u201cBut we can fake it a bit by putting it on satellite, loading it down into the PVR and then offering it to you as if it were the internet.\u201d<\/p>\n New DStv Explora features added<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\nMore on the DStv Explora<\/h3>\n
