The number of daily logins has been impressive to date,” said Kasu.

MWEB free Wi-Fi performance

Kasu said that they have seen real world speeds in excess of 10Mbps at Canal Walk.

“Speed and throughput in the real-world is tough to manage due to interference from other electronic devices using the same frequency range,” said Kasu.

“Whilst the impact to devices using the 2.4Ghz spectrum range is noticeable in ‘noisy’ environment, performance from devices using the 5Ghz frequency band is remarkable,” he added.

“As newer smartphones and tablets are shipped with dual-band Wi-Fi radios (using both 2.4 and 5Ghz ranges) it allows Wi-Fi operators to offer higher speeds and more consistent experience.”

Network infrastructure

MWEB is using Wi-Fi access points from Ruckus Wireless in conjunction with their Hotspot 2.0 ready Ruckus Smart Cell Gateway for their Wi-Fi networks.

“This gives us the flexibility and rich feature set needed to address current and future opportunities with Wi-Fi as the underlying access technology,” said Kasu.

The venue’s network is connected to MWEB’s core network using mainly fibre links.

“We also use a range of fixed and wireless alternatives for smaller venues where fibre is either not feasible or not available within a reasonable time-frame,” said Kasu.

“As the Wi-Fi network leverages the scale and reach of the existing MWEB core network, we can now offer on-the-go services to existing MWEB ADSL customers as well as those who do not have ADSL.”

Free WiFi access

Free uncapped WiFi from MWEB

Free WiFi for everyone from Telkom Mobile

Free WiFi for Pretoria details

MWEB launched free high-speed uncapped MWEB Wi-Fi in Cape Town recently, with plans to grow its footprint

[13
22793,35,213,1447
post-93375","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-wireless","tag-free-wifi","tag-headline","tag-mweb","tag-nathier-kasu
