Parliament’s communications portfolio committee chairman Ismail Vadi adjourned the meeting in order for the MPs to whittle down the 230 public nominations.<\/p>\n

Some of the ANC’s nominations include Jane Barret, Princess Setwayo, Tselane Tambo and Ben Ngubane.<\/p>\n

Common names mentioned by opposition parties included former opposition party leader Fredrick Van Zyl Slabbert, veteran journalist Max Du Preez, journalist Pippa Green and academic Mamphele Ramphele.<\/p>\n

Names sent in by the public — but who have not indicated acceptance of the nomination — include billionaire entrepreneur Mark Shutteworth, movie critic Barry Ronge, author Antjie Krog, radio personalities Tim Modise and John Perlman and opera singer Mimi Coertse.<\/p>\n

The meeting will convene again later on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
