{"id":9524,"date":"2009-09-08T14:12:00","date_gmt":"2009-09-08T12:12:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2009-09-08T14:12:00","modified_gmt":"2009-09-08T12:12:00","slug":"interconnect-rate-cut-within-six-months","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/9524-interconnect-rate-cut-within-six-months.html","title":{"rendered":"Interconnect rate cut within six months"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) this morning met with representatives of&nbsp; Vodacom, MTN, Cell C, Telkom, Neotel and the Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) to discuss the interconnect rate.<\/p>\n<p>ICASA said that the meeting was necessitated by the ongoing public discussions around the cost of call termination in the country.<\/p>\n<p>After deliberations, the meeting resolved to:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Embark on the industry led process to reduce termination rates, with ICASA exercising an oversight responsibility <\/li>\n<li>Ensure that the process of negotiating a new termination rate regime also takes into account the requirements of the competition law<\/li>\n<li>Conclude negotiations between the operators by the end of December 2009, with ICASA proposing an implementation date of 01 February 2010<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Meanwhile, ICASA said that it will continue with its process in terms of Chapter 10 of the Electronic Communications Act.<\/p>\n<p>This process will entail the publication of the necessary regulatory framework pursuant to regulations defining the relevant market; evaluating the effectiveness of competition; a declaration of licensees with significant market power and the implementation of pro-competitive remedies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php?t=190879\"><strong>ICASA &amp; interconnect rates<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; commens and views<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Firm date set for interconnect rate cuts after ICASA meets with telecoms operators<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-9524","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-telecoms"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/9524"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=9524"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/9524\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=9524"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=9524"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=9524"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
